Nature & landscapes: a journey into the wild heart of India

India’s wilderness is as diverse as its culture, ranging from the arid salt marshes of the west to the emerald tiger reserves of the central plains and the high-altitude deserts of the north. Our nature and landscape journeys are designed for the serious traveller who values conservation, biodiversity, and the art of the slow safari. We move beyond the traditional “box-ticking” approach to wildlife, prioritising deep immersion in the natural habitat and meaningful encounters with the communities that protect these landscapes.

At Bharatvaas Travels, we specialise in sustainable and community-focused safaris. Whether you are tracking the rare Asiatic lion or exploring untouched mountain valleys, your journey supports local forest teams and eco-conscious lodges that blend refined comfort with a deep respect for the environment.

Regional wildlife & wilderness highlights

Gujarat: legends of the salt marsh and scrub

Gujarat offers a wildlife experience unlike any other in India. In the Little Rann of Kutch, explore a unique saline desert that serves as the last refuge for the Indian wild ass and a sanctuary for thousands of migratory birds, including flamingos and eagles. Further south lies Sasan Gir National Park, the only place in the world where you can observe the majestic Asiatic lion in its natural habitat.

Madhya Pradesh: the tiger heartland

Known as the “wild heart of India,” Madhya Pradesh features the iconic sal forests and golden grasslands that inspired The Jungle Book. Our journeys through Kanha, Bandhavgarh, and Pench focus on the tiger as a symbol of the landscape, while also showcasing sloth bears, leopards, and rare barasingha deer. Staying in intimate jungle camps allows you to realign your rhythms with the easy-going flow of the forest.

Rajasthan: leopards and ancient rock formations

In Rajasthan, nature and history are inseparable. Experience the unique symbiosis between man and predator in the Jawai and Bera regions, where leopards live in harmony with the local Rabari communities amidst ancient Aravalli rock formations. For a more traditional safari, the dense jungles of Ranthambore provide a dramatic backdrop of 10th-century ruins for tracking the Bengal tiger.

Upcoming destination: the high-altitude frontier of Ladakh

We are currently designing a signature expedition to the Himalayan Kingdom of Ladakh, one of the few places on Earth that remains virtually untouched and unexplored. Known affectionately as “Little Tibet,” this region offers a landscape of calm serenity, fresh mountain air, and jagged peaks.

Our upcoming Ladakh journeys will focus on the quiet rhythm of mountain life and high-altitude nature. From stargazing in the Indus Valley to visiting remote monasteries like Thiksey and Alchi, these trips are designed for those who seek the “calm serenity” of the mountains. You will stay in traditional village houses — known as shaktis — providing an authentic North Indian experience that balances remote location with refined luxury.
